Mental Health Awareness
Crafting the story
Challenged by the largest healthcare system in Georgia to create an awareness video about mental health, I wanted to truly depict the experience of grappling with one's mind and illustrate how its power is reflected in the struggles faced by those who suffer from these kinds of issues.
That’s how the monster was born: as a personification of the darkness that people confront, as the shadow that follows you around and haunts you at night when you’re all alone. The message is that while this shadow or monster may never completely disappear from your life, you can learn to live with it and control it
First steps
With a blank canvas for this project, my first vision centered on a girl’s inner monologue—a character quietly wrestling with everyday self-esteem struggles. She went through life with a constant, whispering voice in her head, second-guessing every move and convincing her that nothing she did was ever quite enough.
The early scripts portrayed a haunting duality between the girl and the monster, reflecting the mind’s ability to torment someone, leading them into dark and frightening places.
But the turning point comes when the girl realizes she isn’t alone—that there are professionals at WellStar who can help guide her out of the shadows.
This video is crafted to resonate with those facing similar struggles, serving as both a love letter and a reckoning with the complexities of mental health and the mind.
